G.8.8 Notification of Fire Services

Subject: Notification of Fire Services Policy No. G.8.8.

 

PURPOSE

To provide guidelines to personnel for the appropriate notification of Fire Services where such specialty services are deemed necessary. This directive is exclusive of Fire Services medical tiered response activities

PROCEDURE

  1. The notification process of Fire Services by the CACC ACO is set out in the Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB Paramedic Services Deployment Plan.

  1. Where personnel have not been advised of Fire Services response, Paramedics should confirm with the ACO of that notification the following scenes:

    1. confirmed or suspected reports of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or Explosion, any fire event.
    2. Any situations involving the potential for a structural collapse risk.
    3. Any special rescue incident including auto extrication, high angle rescue, water/ice water event, or confined space/trench rescue.
    4. Any MCI event as set out in the Deployment Plan.
    5. Any electrical event, including downed hydro wires.
  1. Paramedics have access to CANUTEC manuals in each vehicle and in each MCI kit, to allow follow for specific types of incidents.

  1. Paramedics shall wait at a safe distance from the scene, where a specialty service can secure the area, and allow for safe access and egress.
