MISSION & PHILOSOPHY STATEMENTS

Background: 
  • Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB is one of 47 Consolidated Municipal Service Managers (CMSM) that the provincial government proposed on January 14, 1997 to integrate the delivery of social, community health and housing programs at the municipal level. The Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB came into being on April 1st 1999 and its Ontario Works service delivery responsibilities started effective September 1, 1999.
  • Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of elected officials from the municipalities, towns, and unorganized townships in the Manitoulin and Sudbury districts. 
Mission: 

Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB’s purpose is to facilitate and empower individuals to work towards economic independence and the realization of their goals through employment support, literacy/education upgrading, and referrals to other agencies.  As such, we are committed to the fair, sensitive and equitable administration of Ontario Works services to the people within the Districts of Manitoulin and Sudbury. 
 

Philosophy:

At Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB, we believe

  • in an affordable and effective community based health and social services system that enables individuals to play an active role in initiatives designed to improve the conditions of their lives;     
  • that investing in people through a comprehensive, integrated, responsive health and social services system which is vital to healthy communities.
  • that employment and community placements are integral to an individual’s feelings of contribution to the community and purpose; and that these placements should, where possible, reflect the individual’s particular interests and talents;
  • that resources are to be targeted to programs and services that are proven to be effective;
  • in community-based and integrated partnerships that are built on clear roles and responsibilities;     
  • in the provision of French language and culturally appropriate services, that through our work with those we are here to assist, we are actively contributing to the sustained social and economic vitality of the communities within the Manitoulin and Sudbury Districts.
