SUBJECT: Expanded Eligibility for Emergency Child Care

Thank you for your continued efforts to deliver the targeted emergency child care program for eligible parents of school-aged children while schools are operating remotely. As we look to deliver this critical service once again for the families of eligible frontline workers within your regions, I am writing to communicate a small expansion to the eligibility list, effective January 6, 2022.

Pursuant to the authority of the Minister of Education in paragraph 36 of Schedule 4 of Ontario Regulation 82/20 under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020 (“ROA”) to identify additional individuals who perform work of a critical nature, the Minister has directed that the following individuals be considered eligible for emergency child care:

  • Operators licensed under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002.

This includes those licensed to operate a cemetery, crematorium, funeral establishment, casket retailing business, marker retailing business, transfer service or any other business for which a licence may be required by regulation under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act as well as a cemetery owner who is deemed to be a cemetery operator.

Thank you once again for your hard work, commitment and dedication.
